Podcast co-hosts and producers, Shirley Jackson and Karen Somers are working professionals in Hollywood. Shirley is a two-time Emmy nominated Executive In Charge Of Production in Reality Television and Karen owns an award winning media company of the same name. Shirley oversees production for numerous broadcast series that shoot around the United States. Karen directs, produces and shoots documentary specials, series and commercials and branded content. They are joined by Associate Producer, Carrie Dole and Editorial Engineer Gavin Reign. Our enthusiastic team is excited to be celebrating the accomplished women we feature on this podcast.
Shirley and Karen met about 15 years ago on a TLC wedding series, and have since worked on a myriad of entertainment programming. The genesis behind the podcast was based on their own career experiences.
“Karen and I have come a long way from the little wedding show that could. Over the course of a decade, we’ve spent countless hours discussing the industry, what we’ve learned, how we’ve grown, and concluded we could add to the narrative via a podcast,” says Jackson.
Give Her A Microphone was crafted prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and as Networks and Production companies adapt to the new production “normal,” the need for outlets for women to gather and talk about ways to effect lasting change are greater than ever before. “We’re optimistic the podcast will become a literal gathering spot for women to brainstorm, offer advice, and create opportunities for advancement and growth in entertainment for years to come” added Somers.
Always aim high, work hard, and care deeply about what you believe in. And, when you stumble, keep faith. And, when you’re knocked down, get right back up and never listen to anyone who says you can’t or shouldn’t go on. (Hilary Rodham Clinton)
